HUECU Board of Director Candidate Information

The Governance / Nominating Committee is responsible for reviewing candidate applications, interviewing candidates to ensure they have the appropriate qualifications including desired board skill sets, and to recommend a slate of candidates to the board and membership.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a member of HUECU in good standing for at least one year
  • Attendance is required at virtual Board and applicable Committee Meetings and may be required for any in-person meetings that are held.
  • A minimum of five years full time work experience required
  • College degree preferred

The governing body of Harvard University Employees Credit Union is its Board of Directors who volunteer their time, services, and expertise. The Board’s purpose is to provide strategic direction, ensure the organization has appropriate policies and that such policies are adhered to, and ensures the financial soundness of the Credit Union.

A Board member’s term is three years and one-third of the Board is elected each year. Any Credit Union member in good standing for at least one year, with a minimum of five years of full time work experience is eligible to apply for the Board of Directors. College degrees are preferred as well as applicable skills that would provide value to the Board and the organization. Directors are unpaid volunteers and travel expenses incurred by traveling to/from Board and Committee Meetings are not reimbursed. Attendance is required at virtual board and applicable committee meetings and may be required at in-person meetings.

Nominations for election to the Board of Directors may be made by petition signed by 1% of the members or at least 500 members, whichever is lesser.  No nominations from the floor are allowed at the annual meeting of members.  A form for the statement of qualifications and biographical data for each nominee by petition is available upon request to the Clerk of the Credit Union.  The closing date for receiving nominations by petition is sixty (60) days prior to the annual meeting of members.  To be effective, nominations by petition must be accompanied by a signed letter of intent from the nominee or nominees stating that they are agreeable to nomination and will serve if elected to office.  Only members who meet the qualifications set forth shall be eligible to be nominated by petition for election to the Board of Directors.
