Domestic Students

1. Submit an online loan application. If you have a cosigner, please ensure they complete their part of the application in a timely manner.

2. Upload supporting documentation, this includes a copy of your government issued photo ID, and may include other requested documents.

3. Apply for membership, if you are not an existing HUECU member.

Join HUECU

Due to the cooperative banking structure of credit unions, you must be an HUECU member to borrow with us. Please visit huecu.org/membership to learn about membership, and to submit an online application. Please pay attention to notifications from HUECU in case we need more information for your account. Applications take 2-3 business days to process.

4. Select your loan option. You will receive an email notification outlining your term and rate options.

5. Sign your loan documents electronically. Once you’ve selected your loan option, you will receive a loan document packet in your online account which includes your Approval Disclosure, self-certification form, and promissory note.

6. School certification. Once your application is approved, we will notify your school, and your school will verify your requested amount, and determine eligibility based upon your cost of attendance, financial needs, and the program loan limit for your school. The school will then certify your loan, and set your disbursement date(s).

7. Accept your Final Disclosure, which includes the final terms of your loan.  You will receive a notification when your disclosure is ready for review.

8. Funds will be sent directly to your school. Refunds and changes to loan amounts can be requested through your Financial Aid office.

International Students

We understand that your academic program, travel arrangements or visa approval may be impacted by COVID-19. Don’t worry! We’ve implemented changes that will help you finalize your loan before school starts. Please reach out to us with questions, or if you have a unique circumstance, we’re here to help.

1. Submit an online loan application. If you have a cosigner, please ensure they complete their part of the application in a timely manner.

2. Obtain your visa. If you’re applying for a visa, provide your conditional approval letter to the Registrar’s Office (you will receive this after completing your online application) to obtain financial certification from your school in order to obtain your valid U.S. visa.

Note: If you are a first year student, and experiencing a delay in obtaining your visa, or scheduling your visa interview, please upload proof of visa application, which may include submission of form DS-160, to your online account. If you do not obtain your visa by August, or if you are studying remotely and do not have plans to apply for a visa , or travel to the U.S., please reach out to us directly at huecu@campusdoor.com.

3. Select your loan option. You will receive an email notification outlining your term and rate options. Your loan documents will be generated for signature after you respond with your selection.

If you have a Social Security Number and a U.S. address, you may apply for membership here.
If you do not have a Social Security Number and a U.S. address, apply for membership here. This application allows you to open your required share savings account only. You will be asked to enter 999-99-9999 in place of your SSN.

5. Upload supporting documentation, including your identification, immigration and other required documents:

  • Passport
  • Secondary, government-issued photo ID
  • Visa
  • School issued I-20 financial certification, or form DS-2019

Note: If you are studying remotely and are unable to provide form I-20 or DS-2019, you will be required to provide official proof of enrollment from your Financial Aid or Registrar’s Office, including confirmation for absence of school issued certificate of eligibility due to partial or full program delivery online.

6. Finalize Your Loan Documents. You must sign your Approval Disclosure, self-certification form and promissory note in-person at a credit union branch. Please schedule an appointment, and review your documents in advance. You must select your term and rate option for your documents to be ready for signature. For directions to the branch most convenient for your loan signing, please view our branch locations.

Note: If you have experienced changes to your program and will be studying remotely, you are exempt from scheduling an appointment at the credit union. You must sign your documents in the presence of a U.S. notary.

A U.S. notary can be found locally, or at the closest U.S. Consulate or Embassy. Scanned and notarized copies should be uploaded to your online account for immediate processing. The originals must be mailed to the credit union to finalize your loan, and your document requirements will be satisfied promptly upon receipt.

Borrowers may take advantage of online notary services, including notarize.com (SSN required) and notarycam.com (SSN is not required). Electronic copies will be accepted, and should be uploaded to your account for processing.  A notarization stamp is required on all signature pages for documents to be accepted.
