Domestic Students

1. Complete online loan application

3. Apply to be an HUECU member

Join HUECU

Due to the cooperative banking structure of credit unions, you must be an HUECU member to borrow with us. Please establish the required basic shareholder savings account.

Online member applications take approximately 2-3 business days to verify; please pay attention to notifications from your membership application in case we need more information for your account.

4. If you have a cosigner on your loan, please work with them to ensure they have submitted requested documentation and completed their part of the application in a timely manner.

5. Receive final disclosure email and log in to acknowledge and accept the terms of your loan. Funds will be sent directly to school, refunds, and changes to loan amounts can be requested from your Financial Aid office.

 

International Students

1. Complete online loan application

2. Provide conditional approval letter to Registrar’s Office (you will receive this after completing your online application) to obtain financial certification from school in order to obtain your valid U.S. visa.

3. Please upload your identification and immigration documents in advance through the loan application portal. If you are not able to do so, please bring copies of the documents with you and we will attach them to your loan.

Required Documents:

  • Your passport
  • Your visa
  • A secondary, government-issued, photo ID
  • Your school issued I-20 financial certification

4. All international borrowers must sign their loan documents in-person with an HUECU representative. Schedule a Student Loan Document Signing appointment to complete your loan application in person once you are on campus.

Note: Select the option for Student Loan Document Signing. For the location and directions of the branch most convenient for your loan signing, please view our branch locations.

What to expect during your appointment:

  1. Provide proof of your identity or copies of all documents if not uploaded
  2. Review and sign the loan application and promissory note
  3. Review and sign your self-certification form
  4. Review and sign your membership application if not already established

5. Due to the cooperative banking structure of credit unions, you must be an HUECU member to borrow with us. Please visit huecu.org/membership in advance to learn about membership (and you can open your account online if you have a U.S. social security number). If you are not able to open your account in advance, HUECU will help you complete the process when you sign your loan documents.
