You may have used a creditworthy cosigner to obtain your HUECU student loan(s). If so, it’s important to talk about repayment options with your cosigner since they become responsible for the loan should you fall behind on payments. Additionally, the loan may appear on their credit report as well.
If you are prepared to assume full responsibility for the repayment of your student loan(s) individually, you may be able to take advantage of our co-signer release option, which allows you to release your co-signer from his/her obligation to the loan.
For your cosigner to be released, you must meet the following requirements:
- Complete 48 consecutive, on-time, in full payments.
- All of your HUECU student loans are current and have been current for the past 12 months immediately before applying.
- You do not currently have student loan(s) in a hardship forbearance or modified repayment program.
- Provide proof of income.
- Submit a completed application with a wet signature.
Please note that loan forgiveness does not apply in the event of the death or total and permanent disability of the cosigner.
