HUECU was proud to send a team of employees to volunteer at Food for Free in Somerville, MA on Wednesday, April 20th. The HUECU team packed close to 400 boxes of fresh food that were distributed throughout Cambridge, Somerville and Greater Boston.

For 41 years, Food for Free has provided local families in need access to healthy foods through innovative programming and partnerships, working with more than 100 organizations in 12 cities in and around Boston. In 2021, Food for Free distributed more than six million pounds of food. They also work with local grocers, and rescue unsold foods that would otherwise be discarded.

“Without the help and assistance of volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to assist the community and address food insecurities,” said Emily Griffin, Associate Manager at Food For Free. “We rely on our network of volunteers and community partners to get the job done,” stated Griffin.

“It’s part of HUECU’s mission and commitment to improve our community. We want to ensure our partners with local organizations and charitable programs are supported,” said Sarah Scruggs, Community Engagement Specialist at HUECU, who organized the volunteer efforts. “This is an ongoing partnership HUECU is proud to be a part of,” added Scruggs.
